Aranui to Pitcairn, Part 3
Day 2: Tahanea Atoll. Beautiful nature.
On Thursday, January 10, 2019, we left Papeete, Tahiti and headed to our first destination, the uninhabited atoll of Tahanea. The Tuomotu archipelago consists of over 70 coral atolls covering hundreds of miles and many of the atolls are inhabited. But Tahanea is not, as it is a nature preserve. The Aranui sailed through the pass, an entrance into the atoll that is deep enough for a ship, and anchored off shore. The passengers were taken to land via two barges the Aranui has that can carry about 50 passengers each. The day was spent snorkeling in the beautiful clear waters and hiking around this beautiful place.
